Wolverine Pipe Line Company will be clearing trees on a portion of West 151st Street and Farrell Road throughout the month of March. This work is being conducted as part of routine maintenance to protect the integrity of the pipeline as well as to satisfy new federal mandates requiring gas and oil pipelines to be inspected from the air. City staff met with Wolverine prior to this work to request a minimal approach to the vegetation clearing. The tree removals are being performed as advised by federal regulators to preserve the safety of nearby homeowners. Trees can cause deterioration to pipeline coatings due to their roots and have the potential to conduct electricity during severe weather events with lightning, which would put the integrity of the pipeline at risk. After the trees are cut down, Wolverine will grind the stumps and restore the surrounding landscape.
