Route 171 Study
The City of Lockport has been working on a plan to revitalize and develop the Route 171 Corridor from New Avenue to Interstate 355 including areas west of the corridor to the Metra Station at 135th Street.
The two documents below, Opportunity Analysis and Preferred Strategy, are the culmination of the first two steps in the three-phase process. The Opportunity Analysis presents an overview of input gathered from a variety of stakeholders, resources and the marketplace and identifies strategic directions forward. The Preferred Strategy document refines those directions, putting imagery and additional detail to the strategies so that the concepts and ideas can be communicated clearly. The last, uncompleted, phase, the Final Master Plan, adds structure around timelines, policy guidance and next steps to achieve the various ideas encompassed in the document. Given the significant amount of area in the study that is unincorporated, collaboration with various land owners to understand their future objectives is important so that connections can be made between people to engage in the bigger picture future discussions.
In an effort to continue advancing the project, City staff will be presenting an overview of the first two phases to the City Council on August 19 at the regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole meeting in Central Square at 7pm. The community is welcome to attend or watch the presentation live via the website and YouTube or recorded via the website the following week.
The City held an Open House for the Route 171 Corridor Study Project on Thursday, July 23 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at City Hall, 3rd Floor Council Chambers to receive comments from the community and received feedback on the ideas and concepts of the study. Plans were presented by Hitchcock Design Group and opportunity to comment was provided. For those unable to join us at the Open House, below are files that were available for display to be viewed and downloaded:
