1. When are water bills due?

Water / garbage bills are mailed out around the 1st of each month and are due by the 15th of every month.

2. Is there a senior citizen discount for water / sewer?

Yes, senior citizens can save 50% off the price for water, up to 3,000 gallons. However, seniors must apply in person showing proof of identification and age (65 years or older); must reside in a single-family unit, a duplex unit, or a multi-dwelling unit; and must also be the subscriber to the system.

3. How do I get my water turned back on once it is shut off?

You must come to the Water Department and pay the balance of your water bill in cash. A $50 ($100 after normal business hours) penalty fee will be imposed, which must be paid along with the balance.

4. Does the city give a summer discount on water / sewer?

No, the city no longer gives summer discounts for water / sewer. That program was discontinued in 2011.

5. I just moved to Lockport. How do I get water service in my name?

6. I am moving out of Lockport. Who do I call to cancel my water billing?

if you are moving in or out of the City,  please contact the Water Department at (815) 838-0549. option 3, to order a “final” water reading. 

Homeowners selling the property will need to provide:

• Date of closing
• Address to send the final bill
• Property purchaser (if applicable) 

Renters vacating the property need to provide: 

• Moving date
• Address to send the final bill 
• Landlord’s contact information

7. What do I do if I have rusty water after a main break repair or hydrant flushing?

Sediment in the water pipes can be knocked loose during either water main repair or hydrant flushing, causing the water to turn a shade of brown. This water is not dangerous or contaminated. To alleviate this problem, you should run any faucet in your house that does not have a filtration screen until the water is clear (usually this will be a faucet in a utility sink). If the problem persists, call the Water Department at 815-838-0549, option 3.

9. Where do residents drop off their Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) reports?

All homeowners that have a sprinkler system are required to submit an annual RPZ test report prior to activating their sprinkler system for the season. The RPZ test must be performed by a licensed Cross Connection Control Device Inspector. A list of certified inspectors can be located on the Cross Connection Control Programs Safewater website under the find an Inspector Tab. All RPZ tests are to be submitted through CCRA Professional Services. No paper reports/tests should be sent to the city. 10. When does fire hydrant flushing occur?

Fire hydrant flushing occurs in the spring and fall. Fall hydrant flushing will begin on September 1, 2022 and will continue until complete expected in late October to early November. Signs will be posted when flushing is to occur in your neighborhood.
