Issued by Lockport Emergency Management:
State Street will be closed between Thornton and Division Streets beginning on Friday, June 14 at 5:30 p.m. for the Old Canal Days parade. This closure INCLUDES 9th and State.
All traffic will be diverted to the bypass route – Thornton, Madison, Division, and Canal.
Southbound State Street traffic will use Thornton east to Madison, Madison south to Division, Division west to State. Traffic for the 9th Street bridge will continue west to Canal, then north to 9th Street.
Northbound State Street traffic will use Division – west to Canal for the bridge, or east to Madison. Traffic may continue east on Division, or follow the bypass north to get back on State Street at Thornton.
ALL eastbound traffic from the bridge will use Canal south to Division. Traffic may then head south on State Street or follow the bypass to get back to eastbound 9th Street or northbound State Street.
Westbound 9th Street traffic will need to head south on Madison to get to southbound State Street or the 9th Street bridge. Traffic may follow the bypass north on Madison to get to northbound State Street at Thornton.
Please DO NOT use downtown side streets to avoid the bypass.
NO traffic will be allowed on to State Street from any roadway between Thornton and Division. Additionally, other internal roads (Hamilton, Washington, Jefferson, 3rd, 4th, 11th, 12th, 13th) will be CLOSED at various points to protect parade participants or will be packed with people parking for the parade and carnival.
Parked cars, increased pedestrian traffic, and side-street closures for parade staging and disbursement will make side streets difficult to navigate. Avoid the frustration and follow the bypass signs.
Expect significant delays in the downtown area.
